Customer Reviews

Best Shoegaze album in a long, long time.

Asobi Seksu and The Twilight Sad have emerged as the brilliant foreground of a genre that badly needing either laying to rest, or reingvigorating. What Asobi and their Scottish counterparts have done is give it a good kick up the rear and there is now a wonderful creativity starting to emerge once more. Both these bands place a strong emphasis on the regional heritage of their lead singer (In AS's case Amero-Japanese) and whilst you can hear the shoegaze influences (MBV especially), there are also subtler influences such as Belle And Sebastian (Goodbye's tune for example, could be perfectly lifted from The Boy With The Arab Strap). I believe this to be the best shoegaze album since Loveless. It's that good. This album has been out accross the pond for nigh-on a year, so whether it'll capture any new listeners here is debatable. But if they do, they are in for a real treat.

Amazing

This album is amazing! I have just found my new favourite band

Sexy or Seksu ?

A reviewer has already cited influences that are obviously apparent. Add a 4AD mentality and you begin to really get the picture. With titles such as Pink Cloud Tracing Paper and Exotic Animal Paradise you know you just have to listen to what's on offer; On offer is evocative vocal dreamscapes, very Euopean, very Far Eastern and it all benefits because of that. Not for Heavy Metal fans !

In fact, the quartet is based out of New York...
