Album Review
If such a genre as stadium-screamo exists, Enter Shakari is its definitive spokesband, churning out nu-metal riffage and anthemic post-hardcore epics that have made them a major draw in the U.K. On their second album, they expand from their chart-busting debut in subtle ways. The single "Juggernauts" is a dreamy, psychedelic number bookended by explosive electro passages. "Antwerpen" is nothing less than a prog metal journey, as ambitious as it is emotionally volatile. The second single, "No Sleep Tonight," is an emo mini-opera about class warfare that reads like the Jam's "Down in the Tube Station at Midnight" from the muggers' point of view. The album as a whole is an imaginative and muscular mingling of punk, metal, and pop.
Customer Reviews
Am I the only person who thought that it wasn't that great?
I'm not really sure what I expected to see in this album, but something similar to Take to the Skies would have been good, instead Enter Shikari have thrown together an Album that is basically Rou shouting about politics and hoping that it will change the world. Yeah, your the only band who ever tried that... The only reason this album manages to scrape 3 stars is because some of the songs are "alright". I usually tend to avoid the singles of any album because they get annoying and overplayed, but in this case I find myself repeating Juggernauts and Antwerpen. I am an Enter Shikari fan and am not writing this because I dislike their music and style etc. I know bands change but seriously, stick to what you are good at. Now i'm gonna sit back and wait for the fan boys to rip me apart....
Something Different
I honestly didn't know what to expect with this new album. In a way I was expecting more of the same and I am so glad I was wrong. This new album is fantastic, it is so different from Take To The Skies, it's more mature more grown up and Shikari have moved on a lot. The synths aren't used as much which is great and the band really show their full potential in this follow up. A brilliant solid album all round. Rou's Lyrics are more grown up too which is always a bonus. Fan's wanting more of the same will be dissapointed, however if you want more of the same put Take To The Skies on repeat. Common Dread's is the album I wanted and is the album Shikari needed to make. Enjoy and savour every last moment
AWESOME!!!
all i can say is this album is absolutley awesome! They've experimented a lot with this album and its paid off. There seems to be a bit of everything on this theres the usual heavy guitars, screaming vocals but theres Dubstep, trance and jungle. They once remain genreless, which is great. I think this album could be better than the first. I agree that a lot of fans will be pissed off with this album, but that will just be the stupid emo's who want sceamo. This album is definatley not sceamo. Its f*****g awesome!!!
