iTunes Review
Yes, you heard right – Madonna just said that she feels like a dork outside New York City. If anything, “I Love New York” and the rest of Confessions on a Dance Floor prove that you can put the grown-up club kid on an English country estate, but it might take surgical intervention to take the club kid out of the middle-aged mom. Co-produced by Madonna and Stuart Price, Confessions is the sound of a woman who’s still in touch with the bratty brashness of early gems like “Lucky Star” and “Dress You Up” – just listen to the crazy-for-you mooning of its first single, “Hung Up.” The album’s return to pulsing floor grooves displays a Madonna who’s able to have it both ways: “Sorry” demonstrates how little difference there can be between teen and adult romantic drama, while much of the album is a pop-happy celebration of love as its own form of spiritual awakening.
Customer Reviews
£13.99 for the 'deluxe' version?!
Love the album, esp "I Love New York" and "Let it Will Be"... My one star goes to iTunes for charging an extra fiver for a video and digital booklet... what a rip-off... Go buy the album at your local supermarket for £7.79, import the CD into iTunes and download the video for less than £2 quid... iTunes... stop ripping off your UK customers... it's not like the artist gets much of the cash! :o) Yours, a Mac user and fan of all things Apple!
What a treat...
This album is like ploughing through an entire box of chocolates on your own. It's joyous, a delight, and gives you the biggest sugar rush ever. Download it on a weekday and you'll be listening along waiting for the weekend to come so you can go dancing. Seamlessly segued from beginning to end, with Madonna's best pop hooks since Like A Prayer, it's certainly her most consistently solid album since then (it's better than Ray of Light). That said, there are some stand-outs. 'Sorry'; 'Let it will be'; 'Jump'; 'Push' and the awe-inspiringly camp 'Hung up'. Turn it up loud on the Underground/Subway/Metro and watch people tut at you, wishing they were listening. If you love pop music, this is a don't-even-think-twice-about-it purchase.
No concessions on the dancefloor!
To be honest, I wasn't sure whether to have high hopes for this album or not - I just loved "Music" far too much to be that excited, I wasn't sure if Confessions would even come close to such a focused, melodic work. I even - dare I say it - quite liked "American Life", and I enjoyed watching the new "serious" Madonna in videos such as Hollywood and Die Another Day. But I needn't have worried, because Madge just manages to pull off nearly everything she does, in a lot of style indeed. As a result, I just can't get enough of this new album. My favourite songs are definitely "Sorry", which samples the Jackson 5's "Can You Feel It?", making that thumping bassline much better than it sounded in the original (and listen out for the change of key in Madonna's distorted singing of "I've heard it all before" at the very end of the song, beautiful), while I also love "I Love New York" (a definite grower), "Jump", a classic pop song in the strictest of ways (is it just me or does this sample the Pet Shop Boys' "West End Girls" in the verse?). Other favourites include the yearning "Forbidden Love", "Get Together", which borrows a bassline from the 2000 hit, "Music Sounds Better With You" and "Like It Or Not", which contains one of the cleverest lyrics Madge has come up with in her entire carreer. Quite simply, no matter which Madonna incarnation you have liked the best, go out and buy Confessions on a Dance Floor, cos even if it's not quite as good as your fave Madonna album, it's so classic it will come terrifyingly close!
