Making Contact
I got turned onto this album by two things; listening to a late night show on VibeFM and hearing a track I really liked, but did not know the name of; and then discovering Imogen Heap's brilliant new album "Speak for Yourself". Searching through iTunes for more Imogen Heap tracks, I found 'Second Sense' from 'Contact Note'... Then I auditioned 'Circles', which was the mystery track off the radio! Jon Hopkin's work is new to me, but having downloaded the whole album, I find 'Contact Note' is a really fine amalgam of blissed out ambience but with a forward-looking blend of big beats and some unusual 5/4 and 7/4 rhythms amongst the tracks. The production sound is top notch and there are some really fine sonic techniques employed to keep the listener hooked. For a trance-tipped, slightly down-tempo experience, 'Contact Note' is exceptionally crafted and has some lovely musical moments. It works really well as a whole piece of work. Enjoy.
Sublime!!
Only just discovered Jon Hopkins Contact Note. I'm almost lost for words! This has it all. Beautiful, emotive, but with enough of a techno flavour to have you dancin, and all produced with the touch of someone who has much talent. I'll be downloading anything this guy puts his name to. Genius!!
Inspiring
Thoughtful, serene, Contact Note develops Hopkins' ability to create astonishly beautiful landscapes of sound. Relaxing but not without energy and variation, each track contributes a unique aspect of beauty to the ablum as a whole, which in itself is an enthralling piece of music, moving through an expansive world of emotions and sounds. Though the music drifts easily across the consciousness, its depth ensures that enjoyment of it does not wear thin with time. The stunningly subtle piano melody in Nightjar and shifting vocals in Second Sense and Luna Moth are particular highlights.
