Burning Down the House?

A problem I've always had with the Sting-led rock-pop band The Police is that the name is a misnomer, a fallacy- none of them are actually policemen, in fact only one of them had ever even worked in the public sector, and that was as a teacher. The disconcerting public are being fobbed off with a cynical fantasy, a make-believe heroic vision of an otherwise unremarkable, boring even, group of people.

The band MP4 on the other hand avoid this problem. They are MPs, and there's four of them. Their name therefore, crucially, acts broadly as an accurate representation of their real selves and sound, a vital sense of honesty that's been missing in modern music since at least 1976. They also feed any profits into charity Save the Children, saving children, incidentally, being the kind of thing The Police would be doing were they actually the police. Featuring the only sitting parliamentarian to have appeared on Top of the Pops, they mostly do covers and the original songs feel and sound a bit like covers anyway, (see Foolish Game), but ultimately any discussion of the actual music is irrelevant as the fact that they're all middle-aged MPs and they formed a band is enough to guarantee my unswerving loyalty.

I love it!

Entertaining and wonderful mix - well done boys!

John Robertson MP

The boys have done good. They may not be Oasis or The Beatles but they are not bad for a bunch of MPs. Buy the album and help our heroes. Good luck John.
