A Quality Testament to a Great Band

This is one of those live albums that really works. Most live recordings are either contract obligations or not indicative of the band themselves. This album showcases The Jam through their breakthrough gigs; 'In the City', to the last tour of 1982. 'Listen to 'Dreams of Children' for an awesome rockier, less psychedelic version of 'Going Underground''s double A side; the way it builds to its great finale. But not as out and out rock as 'Private Hell'; a very mechanical, metallic sounding song on Setting Sons but here exposed, raw and again building to a quality ending. The 'All Mod Cons' trilogy shows how The Jam took their fans with them at live gigs. Even the cover, 'Big Bird' is top! A soul anthem given a rock and brass working, which ends and sets you up for the piercing 'Set The House Ablaze'. What an LP! What a band and what a live album! Enjoy! Les Grandes Pantalons

Just like the real thing

I was at some to the gigs recorded in this album and can confirm that the Jam often were rough at the edges live but made up for it with the passion and energy. Captures the feel of the times and my somewhat distant youth. Long live angry young men!!

5*

While they could barely get noticed in America, the trio became genuine superstars in Britain, with an impressive string of Top Ten singles in the late '70s and early '80s. The Jam could never have a hit in America because they were thoroughly and defiantly British. Under the direction of guitarist/vocalist/songwriter...
