Expanding the latent arena rock sensibilities that peppered Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me by slowing them down and stretching them to the breaking point, the Cure reached the peak of their popularity with the crawling, darkly seductive Disintegration. It's a hypnotic, mesmerizing record, comprised almost entirely of epics like the soaring, icy "Pictures of You." The handful of pop songs, like the concise and utterly charming "Love Song," don't alleviate the doom-laden atmosphere. The Cure's gloomy soundscapes have rarely sounded so alluring, however, and the songs — from the pulsating, ominous "Fascination Street" to the eerie, string-laced "Lullaby" — have rarely been so well-constructed and memorable. It's fitting that Disintegration was their commercial breakthrough, since, in many ways, the album is the culmination of all the musical directions the Cure were pursuing over the course of the '80s. A Masterpiece Revisited

Disintegration is an amazing and beautiful album that is considered The Cure's best and now this remastered version proves how great this album is. Delirious Nights and Pirate Ships are just beautiful.
This remastered version just proves how great Disintegration was and still is. Album's like this put modern artists like Miley Cyrus to shame.

Essential listening for anyone that loves music

Back in 1989 this was unlike anything else being released at the same time. It couldn't have been more different from all the acid house inspired baggy pop of the Mondays, the Farm and even the Stone Roses (which were actually a very slow burn). But it was great then, well received critically and also a huge commercial success. It transformed the Cure into a stadium filling band and gave them a unique position in British music. Remarkably they are still going and are relevant to loads of current bands. Only 18 months ago they were headling the NME Awards and had the Brixton Academy and O2 rocking. They were awesome and worthy of the 'Godlike Genius' status NME awarded them.
If you have the original this is still worth getting. Tracks like Pictures of You, Lullaby and Disintegration would do well if new today and the cohesiveness of the album is remarkable - it's the work of a band at the peak of their creativity. Production values are still very '80s but it is crisper, sharper and still sounds awesome. As the record sleeve said at the time, 'this album has been mixed to play loud, so turn it up'. Good advice from RS. Do it. Cherish this masterpiece - It's a slice of British music history.

A genuine classic

I first heard this album when I was 18, 2 years after it's release and thought it was great, a classic. 19 years later and it's still just as good.
The album's 21 years old and still sounds as fresh as it did back then. It's a masterpiece and this remastered version sounds just that bit sharper.

Considering the dross being released these days it's lucky we have these older albums to fall back on. Honestly, will anyone care about or even remember the talentless crap pushed out by the likes Dizzy Rascal or Rhiana in a few years time?

Probably preaching to the crowd here. But buy this album, it's just gorgeous.
