Not the turkey some would have you believe!

"Drama" is a black sheep among Yes albums as it is the only one not to feature Jon Anderson (although he does make an appearance on some of the bonus tracks on this reissue). In his place and also Rick Wakeman's are The Buggles, Trevor Horn (vocals) and Geoff Downes (keyboards). However, Horn's singing is not too far removed from Anderson's and with the willfully obscure lyrics ("If you could see all the moments I've travelled towards some unusable last equilibrium" - pardon?), fiendishly tricky but still rocking music (check out the heavy intro to "Machine Messiah") and Chris Squire's grumbling bass, it's very much business as usual. Following this album Yes split up and when the regrouped in 1983 (with Anderson back and Horn in the producer's seat), it was with a far more radio-friendly sound. To the so-called "Troopers" who love the progressive aspects of Yes' music, it would never be quite the same again.

Prog Rock with Trevor let loose! errrrm!

Deffo no 90125, but experimental in sounds new to Yes, departure of Anderson who ventured with elecro synth guru Vangelis, Trev /Geoff who later formed Buggles!. Leaves a Mish Mash on this album as a result.

The band, founded in 1968, overcame a generational shift in its audience and the departure of its most visible members at key points in its history to reach the end of the century as the definitive progressive rock band. Where rivals such as Emerson, Lake & Palmer withered away commercially after the mid-'70s, and Genesis...
