Bring them back out of the cold!

A friend recommended this album to me (thank you!!) ......and whilst my musical tastes are pretty accommodating I can be less than welcoming of some genres - however, this album just seemed to 'fit' - the myriad of styles used by A3 just seem to work together and the result is no less than spectacular....I really love this album and if you can put aside any pre-conceptions you may have about fusion music - then buy Exile On Coldharbour Lane - you will NOT be disappointed.....

A CULT CLASSIC BY A CULT BAND?

This was my introduction to A3 it is a fantastic mix up of musical styles - "Country Acid House Gospel?" - this album also showcases a lyrical virtuosity with a sense of humour. Most of all this is good fun & it is difficult to understand (when you listen to this piece of work) why Alabama 3 do not have a bigger following & recieve more space in the music press. The first version of the Sopranos Theme tune is on "Exile" - however the highlights for me are the first 3 tracks which includes "Woke Up This Morning" (The Chosen One Mix - is the Sopranos Theme & can be found on La Peste) just flow into each other & the humour of "U Don't Dans" & "Old Purple Tin". So why is this still a "Cult Classic by a Cult Band"?

country, techno, and hip-hop

Those who like the theme song for The Sopranos but that are hesitant to purchase this CD thinking that the band is nothing but a one trick pony can put your fears to rest. "Exile on Coldharbor Lane" contains at least a half a dozen songs that are the equal to "Woke Up This Morning." The album is, in fact, the best techno rock album released in the 1990s by anyone not named Trent Reznor. Combining elements of rock, country, blues and yes, even gospel into their funky beats, these guys know how shake your booty while also challenging your frontal lobes. They also get the prize for managing to turn a John Prine song ("Speed and the Sound of Lonliness") into a house dancefloor number.

Biography

Formed: London, England

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Alabama 3 was one of the oddest musical outfits to arise from late-'90s London, but also one of the most original. The band's origins are shrouded in urban myth — the band likes to claim that the three core members met in rehab, while their Southern accents have many believing they are from the U.S. state of Alabama, although it appears vocalists Rob Spragg and Jake Black met at a London rave when Spragg heard Black singing Hank Williams' "Lost Highway." Bonding, they set out about creating...
