One of the most listened to albums I possess

Its beautiful, timeless, mellow and infinitly beautiful. This is not a phase, this is what music should be about. I have listened to this album so many times, and it never gets old. Its often moody, and generally quite calming, but Alison's voice over strings, electronic add ins, and other classical instruments creates a completely unique album unlike anything else I know. If you are a serious music lover then this will not be a waste of money. However its not really anything like Black Cherry or Supernature, if that is what you are expecting. Still, this is the Goldfrapp I initially came to love, and it cannot really be compared with their more recent work. I like both new and old, but for very different reasons. This is much more delicate, and very rewarding to listen to.

Staggeringly beautiful...

Those of you coming round to Goldfrapp via their recent albums, especially the glitter fodderstompf of 'Ooh La La' may be bemused. This, their genre defining first album, was never equalled and certainly never bettered. Goldfrapps indescribable voice, one minute operatic, the next whispering, yodelling, growling, holds this collection of filmic scores and soundscapes together. From the opener of Lovely Head where I was amazed to discover on seeing them live that the sound is her voice (!), through the lushness of Utopian fascist babies this is an album you may find a little obscure on first listen, but one you will come back to again and again. Lyrically intense, but never inaccessible, share with likeminded friends or enjoy alone: let them take you there!

Best served chilled

This is Goldfrapp and co. at their best. Never mind the pop which Goldfrapp has produced with the later albums of Black Cherry and Supernature, if you want to know why Goldfrapp deserved to break into the big time then look no further then this album. All the tracks are excellent and mesh perfectly with one another. This album lets your senses soar, just sit back and close your eyes...
