Fire Walk With Me

Zynic recreates mid 80's synthpop, at its very best.

     

This is a very good album. If Erasure's Wild! and Chorus are albums that really floats your boat you'll love Fire Walk With Me. Similarly if Colony 5, Code 64, Apopytygma Berzerk and bands that blend Erasure with Depeche Mode are your thing, you really could do worse than explore this album

The stand out track, which epitomises this album is single- Dreams In Black And White- a song which very much lingers on when music was a lot better in the mid-80's than it is now....apparently. Other highlights are the similar-ish Who's To Blame, Soul For Sale, Rescue Me and second single My Personal Kryptonite, all songs which give Erasure's Drama and Love To Hate You a run for the money!

When Zynic does slow down the tempo, the songs do give this album greater variety and depth. Although the slow songs which feature towards the second half of the album aren't half as good as the faster tracks, it should be remembered this is only Zynic's first album. Of the slower tracks Shadow Framed Memories comes across as the most convincing, again this is another track that sounds like..... mid/late 80's Erasure. But really, is that such a bad thing?
