Mad & beautiful..

I bought this this morning on the strength of a glowing review in the NME without ever hearing a note by the band,i've actually played it 5 times in a row it's that good. It's addictive, full of invention, amazing playing,a nice mix of rocking tracks & some really beautiful moments.I'm going to get their other stuff right now,buy & enjoy.

'Fits' starts... and finishes with psychedelic rock zeal

Of late, I’ve been switching my British allegiances and finding that you can wrap all of my recent most-listened to with a star spangled banner. Not least among that pile, Texan trio White Denim. They return with their sophomore album and it’s got to be one of the most relevant this year. An LP of two halves, it’s severed by an instrumental track, ‘Sex Prayer’ half way through; the first half is blistering garage rock that ambles around the psychedelic and the second is more melodic but still with the rumbling bluesy bass-line that features throughout. The first few songs are like a malaria attack; sharp, punchy and develop with a DFA-like acid trip, with songs like ‘Radio Milk How Can You Stand It’ and ‘I Start to Run’ conjuring images of a Fear and Loathing-like drive on the wild side. Stand out track for me is the relatively relaxed ‘Regina Holding Hands’, which is instantly listenable and lovable – a perfect example of their diversity as a band. It has hand claps, wah wah, the stench of Summer of Love free spirit, yet has 2009 etched deep into its grooves.

Shambolic Joy

This album is an audible delight from start to finish, meandering between shambolic garage prog into soulful vintage R&B.. The musicianship is something to admire on its own but don't let this distract you from the songs on offer, 12 proper gems. For the full experience buy it on 12" and grow your hair long.

The spastic indie rock trio White Denim hail from Austin, Texas, where bandmates Josh Block (drums), Steve Terebecki (bass), and James Petralli (guitars, vocals) first set up shop in 2005. All three members were veterans of the Austin scene; Block and Petralli had previously played together in the alt-rock band Parque Torche, while Terebecki was a member of Peach Train. Drawing from a number of punk and garage rock influences, the group fashioned a hard-hitting sound with crunchy guitar riffs and...
