iTunes Review

Kentucky’s Black Stone Cherry are one of the most appealing young hard rock groups to come around in some time, combining their southern rock roots with the emotive passion of modern hard rock to create a powerful weave of intricate guitar riffing and indelible melodies. Chris Robertson sings with maximum authority and a hint of fragility lurking underneath his machismo blasts, as much Eddie Vedder as Skynyrd’s Ronnie Van Zant. That’s a real “please” he issues during “Please Come In” and there’s pure sentiment behind the haunting ballad “Things My Father Said.” Just as their 2006 self-titled debut exhibited the band’s elevated musicianship, this 2008 follow-up adds to their arsenal of musical chops. Drummer John Fred Young twists the standard hard rock beats with quick, intense flourishes (“Blind Man”, “Reverend Wrinkle”) that give the band an extra edge. “Peace is Free” evolves into a singalong anthem with all members contributing, while “Sunrise” jumpcuts into a reggae groove for its chorus.

Folklore & Superstition

After an amazing debut album only released just over a year ago in the UK, Black Stone Cherry have released album no.2. And like their debut, Folklore and Superstition is going to be just as good. You can expect the great riffs that you heard in their debut all over this album. And since their debut Black Stone Cherry have toured with legends like Whitesnake and Bon Jovi. If you own their debut album, this album is definitely a must own. The standout tracks so far are, Blind Man, Please Come In, Soul Creek, The Bitter End, Peace Is Free, Sunrise and Ghost of Floyd Collins. This album continues where their last album left off. Folklore and Superstition gets 9/10. Top 8 1 - Blind Man 2 - Please Come In 3 - Ghost Of Floyd Collins 4 - Soul Creek 5 - Sunrise 6 - Things My Father Said 7 - Reverend Wrinkle 8 - Stranger

Pop Your Cherry

Biography

Formed: 2001 in Edmonton, KY

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Southern rockers Black Stone Cherry originally hailed from a small rural town in south central Kentucky. According to bandmembers, none of whom were born before 1983, the lack of anything to do in their hometown, coupled with a rich musical background in their community and families, led them to start playing music. Lead vocalist and guitarist Chris Robertson met drummer John Fred Young (the son of Kentucky Headhunters' Richard Young) in school, and the two played music together throughout high school....
