a-ha return with a cracker of a album
In 2000 after a few years absence a-ha cameback to record their successful 'Minor Earth, Major Sky' album which contained a surprise UK Top 40 hit 'Summer Moved On'. They then recorded two more albums 'Lifelines' and the more successful 'Analogue' which included their first UK Top 10 hit of the same name for many years. 'Foot of the Mountain' goes back to their original routes of the 'Hunting High and Low' Album back in 1985/86. The Bandstand sounds very much like Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk have got together for a coffee and it works. Riding the Crest is very similar to Take on Me (if made today), What There Is is surprisngly catchy. Then we have lead of single (ignored sadly by the Take That obessesed Brits) Foot of the Mountain which is excellant. Real Meaning is a much slower but still beautiful song. The comes Shadowside another potential single which builds up very nicely in my opinon. Nothing Keeping you here is a good somewhat slower pace catchy album track, Mother Nature sounds like a Keane/Coldplay cover but still pretty decent. Sunny Mystery has def got some Keaneistic to it (or should it be other way around) and it is a surprisingly good close to end album track. Final track Start the Simulator is another that starts to build off and a fitting song to end the album. I was surprised having all the recent comeback albums that this one is actually better then the more 'adult' Analogue. Morten voice has returned after a lacklusted 'do I care' on the past two albums not bad for a bloke nearly 50! Its nice for them to go back to their old routes and if you are a a-ha fan then its worth getting these 10 songs. Especially if you loved their much older stuff during their peak period of mid eighties. I just hope they get the praise they deserve in the UK....doubt it sadly.

a fantasic album,great to hear the guys colaborating again as they used to,its not a copy of huning high and low album but has a similar spirit,,shadowside,mother nature goes to heaven and the single foot of the mountain are my favs,great to see paul writting more material again
Album of The Year 2009
No Contest. An album that's more immediate than Analogue. I've been a fan since 1987 and Scoundrel Days. Every album they produce has punctuated a time in my life since then - all their albums have standout points that move me to tears, however this time with Foot of The Mountain, they've gone hyper - 9 out of 10 of these songs are instantaneous and are brilliant. Shadowside was the one that made me well up this time! A song about the effects of depression on a relationship. Other highlihgts i just can't stop listening to are: The Bandstand, Sunny Mystery,What there is, the title track, Mother Nature Gone to Heaven and Riding The Crest. The electronic sound is fresh really reminds me of early Depeche Mode in places - so more like 1981 than 1985! Very, very VERY exciting!!!!! Buy this album!
