A Stunning Achievement
Without a doubt Clint Mansell has captured the mood of Darren Aronofsky's best film to date. Taking in three distinct time periods The Fountain is about one man's attempt to save the life of the woman he loves. From the haunting notes of The Last Man to the magnificent Death Is The Road to Awe the soundtrack captures not only the tender love story at the heart of this movie, but also man's frantic obsession to achieve immortality. If you liked Requiem for a Dream you will love The Fountain.
The Fountain
The Fountain is a masterpiece that makes your brain muscles flex and your heart tumble. Make no mistake: it goes much deeper than a tragic love story where a man unsuccessfully trying to save the woman he loves. It goes even further than a human's Death dilemma. It brings us to the point where inevitability of death is replaced with acknowledged choice of the main character. But as you would have guessed by now- it's not even remotely a grotesque suicide but the beginning of.... (watch the movie and decide for yourself). Don't allow ignorant critics from mainstream editions affect you. Nowadays it is extremely rare to have a piece that would speak to your soul without words. This is one of them. Embrace it.
Agonisingly beautiful soundtrack
Even if you don't like the film, mansell has created such a harrowing, heartbreaking score that it would be perfectly normal to be moved to tears. Buy it, no more questions, buy it. You won't regret it.
