Shady Bard

I found out about these quite a while ago, when they were supporting a band I like. I was into them after they went off, and I bought this album. This is a very good album, not as loud and exciting as it was live, but quite impressive. Fires- A catchy opening tune, but not the greatest one. 7/10 Bobby- A calm, piano-based song, a little sad. Bonus point for the lyrics!! 8/10 These Quiet Times- A fair improvent to Bobby, and in a similar mood. Better than the a'capella one on the EP. 9/10 Frozen Lake- Just a short, scary instrumental with not much going on. 6/10 Treeology- Another catchy acoustic track and with a music video. Nearly the best on the album. 10/10 Torch Song- A more musical reprise of Frozen Lake. A nice cheerful song. 8/10 Memory Tree- Continuing the mood of Torch Song on a vibraphone. A bit "empty" though. 7/10 Penguins- The best track here. A slow buildup from acoustics, becoming a big rock song. This sounded mental when it was on live. 10/10 From The Ground Up- Yet another catchy acoustic tune. The instruments make up for the lack of lyrics; the song has a lot going on. 8/10 Winter Coats- A piano pop song. Catchy and uplifting. 9/10 Summer Came When We Were Falling Out- A sad xylophonic outro, but nothing any good in there. 5/10

The real slim shady...

The acute radar of Planet Sound on Teletext first alerted me to this band around a year or so ago and from then on, I have been a fan. There is a sincerity with such music and an originality that is not found typically elsewhere. Perhaps a description of them as an environmentally-friendly Sigur Ros is appropriate to generalise their style?...

Feeling Shady

This is an excellent debut album full of lush, beautifully arranged tunes. Thoughtful, melodic and wonderful.
