Album Review
Fused is an appropriately titled first solo release from flutist Michael McGoldrick. Blending traditional Irish music and acoustic instruments including fiddle, trumpet, and saxophone with the borrowed amplified beats of ambient and trance. Time will tell if this is the future direction of Celtic music. Helping out on this project are like-minded guest artists Karan Casey formally of Solas and Karen Matheson and Manus Lunny of Capercaillie. Fused is available from the Compass label.

really enjoyable album of irish folk music with a contemporary spin - needs to be really listened to if you are going to discover the full range of great music and influences that have been combined to do something really refreshing to a great musical genre. Would recommend this to anyone - has a light touch of the ambient mixed with the lively to keep you interested right to the end.
A fusion of styles
I first heard this great CD whilst in a record store in Dublin and absolutely loved it. Take some trad Irish music and mix with a whole host of other genre influences, and you get a superb disc of music that brings trad music in to the 21st century. A selection of toe-tapping numbers that really lift the spirit combined with a few slower tunes produce a disc that comes highly recommended for those who like their trad with a bit of spice, and a bit less 'old blokes in a pub'.
