Album Review

Following their mixing duties on the Nip/Tuck original soundtrack and Bloom compilation, Gabriel & Dresden is the self-titled debut album from the San Francisco progressive trance duo. Influenced by the likes of alternative acts Depeche Mode and the Cure as well as club DJs James Holden and Sasha, the 2006 LP, released through their own Organized Nature label, combines vintage guitars, Moog synths, and electro beats throughout its continuously mixed 12 tracks. Featuring vocal contributions from the Sarah McLachlan-esque Molly Bancroft and British producer Jan Burton, it includes the singles "Tracking Treasure Down," "Dangerous Power," and the double A-sided "Mass Repeat"/"Eleven." ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi

So good they named it twice

This album is ace! Every track has it's own flavour without sounding like a collection of singles banged out one after the other and at only £7.99 it's got to be good value for money when you see they've kindly tacked on a continuous mix of the album at the end. Unlike the Above & Beyond debut (which I bought in a hurry because that, like this, is also ace - check it out!) the album tracks aren't mixed so you don't get the annoying QSC (Quarter Second Click) while the iPod cues the next track so it isn't an iPod Afterthought - simply extra value for money! I think the tracks are re-ordered for mixing purposes which gives it another flavour too. Brilliant!

DANGEROUS POWER INDEED

G & D produce a great record here. My only gripe is the version of Dust in the Wind ain't great. This is a beautiful song originally by 70's rockers Kansas and better heard in its original [non electronic] version. Having said that there are so many great moments on this record it still gets 5 stars and Dangerous Power is awesome and worth buying separately for all the remixes.
