Album Review

Nearly 20 minutes of prime audio beatmulch, Booth and Brown's 2002 EP upload to fans of experimental techno rarely pauses for breath or stakes out a rhythm to call its own, but does show the duo relentlessly seeking to make music unlike any heard — or imagined — before. The title track is four minutes of DSP'ed, audio-processed near chaos, though head nodding is occasionally possible (not recommended). Of the three, only "Cap IV" nods toward music instead of pure time signature and beat experimentation. [A bonus DVD adds Alexander Rutterford's impressive video of "Gantz_Graf" — one that appears to expand the .wav file of the original into several new dimensions of polygonal space — along with those for the older tracks "Bass Cadet" and "Second Bad Vilbel."]

Firist two tracks are passable but Cap.IV is great when I,m in the mood,
I,m certainly not a paedo.
Friends take too much effort.

Accessible and enjoyable

The title track itself is nothing but pure misanthropic nastiness from start to finish. Seriously, who gets any sort of pleasure from this arrogant bile? Yes it's "complex", "original" and "technical", but it's also bloody awful to listen to unless you happen to be a sadistic paedophile or a pretentious pseudo-liberal who has no friends or life.

Through a series of full-length works and a smattering of EPs on Warp, Clear, and their own Skam label, Autechre consistently garnered the praise of press and public alike. Unlike many of their more club-bound colleagues, however, Autechre's Sean Booth and Rob Brown had roots planted firmly in American electro, and though the more mood-based,...
