iTunes Review

That Moby sure is a strange one. And no, we're not referring to his bottled tea line or Lower East Side sandwich shop with the vegan club sandwiches. Try his 15-year career — a monstrous back catalogue that's attempted nearly every section of your favorite record store except for, say, dub reggae or country. Dude's even done hardcore punk before (the parts of Animal Rights that aren't blissfully ambient), and let's not forget his start as a short, balding demi-god of the burgeoning rave scene ("Drop a Beat," "Next is the E"). Trouble is most of America recognizes this true postmodern pioneer simply as the hyperactive little man that tossed poppy techno tracks in with calloused blues 78s on Play. This best-of collection doesn't change that outlook so much as start where the previous compilation Songs 1993-1998 left off — leaning heavily on Moby's last three albums and a string of singles that include treatments from such trendsetting remixers as Mylo and Booka Shade. Oh, and there's a new disco lite song featuring Debbie Harry that's much better than its tired title suggests ("New York, New York"). It's far from a complete overview of his confounding career, but at least Go is a glaring reminder that Moby's done much, much more than score a ton of commercials.

Customer Reviews

Moby's Best.

This is a great collection of some of Moby's best music. It is much more upbeat and less dreary like his newer albums. If you are not yet a fan of Moby I would start here and download this CD first. Also in case you have not heard about Eric Walker and his cd Tangier Dream it is by far one of the best of 2011, and maybe the past few years. It is here on itunes by searching Eric Walker Tangier Dream. Go listen to it and be blown away, I know I was. I will see you soon in concert Moby at the festival. I am looking forward to seeing you live in concert. Long live Moby!

What happened to the length of my songs?

Before you buy this album, look at the track lengths and see what you are getting. Look at the track length of ¨In my heart¨ compared with the version on the ¨18¨ album. Look at the track length of ¨Porcelain¨. See anything missing? Yeah, you've just been short changed. My advice, make a note of the track names, go buy the individual tracks from the original albums and make your own GO.

Simple Yet Powerful

This album, being a "Very Best Of" has brought all of my favourite songs back to me. My Favourite is Porcelain. I love it very much. I would like to see a lot more songs like porcelain. It si a very emotional song. Moby is classic, original and is simply sound.

Biography

Born: 11 September 1965 in Harlem, New York, NY

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Moby was one of the most controversial figures in techno music, alternately praised for bringing a face to the notoriously anonymous electronic genre and scorned by hordes of techno artists and fans for diluting and trivializing the form. In either case, Moby was one of the most important dance music figures of the early '90s, helping bring the music to a mainstream audience both in England and in America. Moby fused rapid disco beats with heavy distorted guitars, punk rhythms, and detailed productions...
