iTunes Review

Approaching 50 years old with this release, Madonna can no longer pretend to be the young seductress. So 50 is the new 40? The new 30? Madonna doesn’t aim for a precise number. Instead, she works to make time itself irrelevant. 2008’s Hard Candy, a few technological tones aside, could just as easily have come out in the mid-80s, the mid-90s, or anytime during her long, enduring career. It’s Madonna on the dancefloor, letting the rhythms and producers do the heavy lifting while her voice skates over the grooves with a sultry reassurance that at this point is the sound of an old familiar comrade letting you know she’s still fighting the good fight. Timbaland, the Neptunes and Nate “Danja” Hills add their production touches, but it’s Madonna’s reflective touch that delivers the somber twists of “Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You”, the nostalgic glaze of “Incredible” where she admits, “I wanna go back to then”, and the “Everybody” tint of “Heartbeat” where she states, “It may be old to you but it feels new to me”. At this point she’s riding the wave, hanging on for dear life and making it every bit the adventure we’ve come to expect from her career.

Sticky & Sweet Indeed

Well it's been over two years now since the release of the critically acclaimed confessions on a dance floor so a new Madonna album is welcomed with open arms. When it was reported that Madonna was working on an urban album a lot of fans went into a state of panic, however, having now heard the full package it's clear that the worry was for nothing. If anything Hard Candy is what Confessions should have been. It's packed full of bass thumping dance anthems with a beat that will appeal to a much more commercial audience. It was said that Madonna was jumping on the current band wagon and copying what Nelly Fertardo and Justin had already done, but take a listen to this album and you will see that is not the case. The album features production from Pharrell, Danja and Timbaland, but it's not the typical sound you'd expect from those artists. Infact the lead single '4 Minutes' is probably the most Timbaland sounding track on the album, and now in comparison with the other tracks probably fits the least well. We start off with fun, get out of your seat stompers and end on a rather darker note! Stand out tracks are definitely Give It To Me (the albums second single), Miles Away, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You, but also includes some other stand out moments like Kanye's rap on Beat Goes On! This album is a must for any Madonna fan, Timbaland Fan, Pharrell fan and of course Justin fan. It's Madonna doing what she does best 25 years on and still being an inspiration to all, and at 50 is there any stopping this women? Lets hope not.

Good, but...

I like this album, but in comparison to 'Confessions on a Dancefloor', it just leaves something begging. I'm still glad I bought it and maybe some of the tracks will grow on me, but I can't help feeling slightly disappointed. Most of the songs just don't hold my interest, there are some better ones, but overall disappointing :-(

Fantastic!

Truely a great album.

After stars reach a certain point, it's easy to forget what they became famous for and concentrate solely on their personas. Madonna is such a star. Madonna rocketed to stardom so quickly in 1984 that it obscured most of her musical virtues. Appreciating her music became even more difficult as the decade wore on, as discussing her lifestyle became more common than discussing her music. However, one of Madonna's greatest achievements is how she manipulated the media and the public...
