A little bit more "ooh la la"

More accessible on first listen to the last album (Seventh Tree) this is back to the similar territory of Supernature, although more lo-fi. Head First has been slated for jumping on the bandwagon of the 80's revival, well Alsion & Will were on that wagon ages ago. A slim 38 mins long (pretty normal for Goldfrapp) this is an enjoyable ride. If you like the single Rocket, jump on board you'll enjoy the ride

Yup - a disappointment.

Each album has been exploratory and praise-worthy for its unique musicality up until now. Head First, however, is texturally thin, repetitive and lacking in vision. For me its length reflects the lack of musical sophistication usually associated with Goldfrapp. If you disassociate the album from the band, you can enjoy a few tracks, though as a whole Head First leaves little lasting impression. I am sorely disappointed and anticipate their next endeavour as I know they can produce something far more ambitious and aurally rewarding.

Another change in direction!

It's another change in direction for Goldfrapp, and something that's completely different to Seventh Tree, from two years ago. It isn't quite as 'unique' as their past albums (Seventh Tree would've been difficult to top on that front!), but it's still clearly Goldfrapp with some excellent production. Head First is VERY 'The Visitors' by ABBA, whilst the rest appear as late 70s/early 80s - each song, to me, sounds different. And Voicething at the end, is spectacular, something which possibly still has hints of Seventh Tree to it. All in all, a great album. Hope it at least matches Seventh Tree's chart success!
