Album Review
Released in 2007, Holding Nothing Back is the third studio album from British Christian worship leader Tim Hughes. The follow-up to When Silence Falls features 11 original contemporary Christian rock tracks, co-written with the likes of Ben Cantelon and his wife, Rachel. Scaling the heights, plumbing the depths
I've always been a fan of Tim's work, but with this album it feels like he's reached a new maturity and depth in his song writing. I don't remember the last time I was as touch and so elated by a worship album. At one level, this album is youthful and energetic, but on another entirely, it's spiritually deep and theologically rooted. It's a must have for anyone passionate about worship and going deeper with God. Tim, God bless you as He blesses others through you!
Good grief, Tim Hughes has discovered music!
I have a confession to make regarding Tim Hughes' last two albums... i really dislike them. There's just no musical innovation, and in spite of his writing great songs, the studio production just makes them sound extremely tedious. This is a total transformation. I mean, in short, this is the freshest sounding worship album i've heard in a long time, which is no small feat considering i already own six of these songs elsewhere. Tim Hughes has created a visceral worship album that grabs you by the throat and forcibly lifts you up until you can nothing but praise. It sounds like the very best modern rock out there at the moment (apart from a few too many violins, perhaps) The remastered "God of Justice" simply soars; "Living for Your Glory" deserves to echo throughout churches all over Britain (St Aldate's Oxford has already started...) and the pounding drums and thumping piano of "Almighty God" are stunning. Forget everything you know about Tim Hughes, and rethink most of what you know about worship music. This deserves to sit alongside David Crowder* Band's "Illuminate", Matt Redman's "Facedown" and Passion's "How Great is Our God". These songs will wear out, get overplayed and get stale, but for a little while they will focus you on just how amazing this life is. If you don't believe me, listen to the 30-second clips. This is another fantastic Album by the one and only Tim Hughes. It again proves why he is one of our countries leading worship leaders and songwriters.
