Album Review
The Roots’ third album for Def Jam and ninth studio set, How I Got Over, is the group’s first release since becoming the house band on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Crossing paths with the show’s musical guests has fostered collaborations that would not have occurred under any other circumstances. While the album features the likes of My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and Monsters of Folk, there are several less surprising contributions from Little Brother’s Phonte, Dice Raw, P.O.R.N., John Legend, and Jazzyfatnastees’ Mercedes Martinez.

At their best
Awesome album! More mellow than the stuff we've been used to lately but that makes no difference to the quality. Each track more than merits it's place on the album... 100% zero filler on this release. Each collaboration fits perfectly, every featured artist deserves to be heard as they actually contribute to the album, not just feature on it. (unlike so many other hip hop acts out there today) Black thought's lyrics seem to be slicker than ever and totally relevant to what is going on in the world today. We hear a bit more of questlove rapping also which is awesome and he does it very well in his own unique style. Aside from that the music itself is funky and they are all songs which will get into your head after a few listens. This album is the roots at their creative best. Buy it!
Review
Album of the Year so far. I've listened to the other "major" releases like Eminems Recovery which was solid but this albums far stronger. The production throughout is the typical high quality you will have come to expect if you've heard other Roots albums and as usual also Black Thought is once again first class throughout proving himself once again to be one of, if not Hip Hops most consistantly dope MC offering up varied deliveries and thought provoking lyrics from start to finish. The features are all solid too from Blu to John Legend and The Money Makin Jam Boys. The albums overall feels alot more mellow also than some previous efforts from The Roots like Phrenology and Rising Down but is as I already stated equally as astounding as their previous albums.
If I where to reccomend just one album on iTunes from this years releases (and I've heard alot of them) this would be it without a doubt.
I'd give it 4/5 as no albums perfect however after reading reviews in other albums and seeing groupies votin 5/5 jus because of idol worship I felt I should make an exception here n award the full star rating as it is a doper joint than the ones recieve dellusional reviews.
At last its on itunes
Why of why has it took so long to get this on itunes, i had to buy it in store.
This is a must have album. The tracks have a really nice consistent feel to them and its a start at track one album
