Customer Reviews
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome back Miss Grace Jones
Whilst the whip cracking opener This Is and reggae ska influenced Well Well Well and Love You To Life hark back to earlier moments in her 80 disco career, this is more like Massive Attack meets Grace Jones. The other elements are a far more personal approach, particularly in two of the highlights - Williams Blood and I'm Crying - and a far more intelligent and altogether darker approach to the subject matter - Sunset Sunrise muses on the earth and Devil In My Life is spooky tale of self-destruction. The album is dominated by industrial rhythms and sweeping string sections and Grace slides effortlessly between her famous sung-spoken style and something a lot more soulful. Grace could win a few new fans here and if you've always thought she was far more than just a disco star this proves it. As to the bonus Atticus Mix, perhaps it needs a PG rating, haha!
Just when you thought she wasn’t relevant and Grace delivers this!
Grace Jones to many was it in the 80’s! With the Compass Point years/sessions she was producing some seriously slick records. Of course a major contributing factor to those great albums was Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, who are both back in action in the rhythm section on “Hurricane” . Small wonder that this album is really that good…Grace Jones in 2008 and still original, still relevant and still as funky as…well you catch my drift! If you liked Grace all those years back this album is a must and will make you feel 20 years younger again.
Classic
Grace Jones has come up with a classic , well worth the wait -. Favorites include This is , Love you to life and the best one on first hearing I'm Crying - however every track is great and will most probably change upon hearing quite a few times - (note there is swearing on the remixed single)
