Rolo Tomasssi heavily impress on their debut

A fantastic debut from a band that are poised for success, Their S/T which came out 2006, was my favourite listen of 2006, and i was looking forward to this album. Tracks like Oh Hello Ghost, which starts off relatively tranquil until it blasts into a frenzy of noise. Eva's voice is fantastic and really stands out on the album, The ambient songs on the album are refreshing, An apology to the universe and everything went grey, similiar to Brian Eno'w work. There is no stand out track as every song is varied, which is why this album works. Scabs is my favourite however and the fantastic Fantasia, which like the film is crazy. They are also fantastic live, such energy for a band whose average age is like 19-20. Definitely in my top 5 of 2008, well worth a purchase.

Hmmm...

I just can't quite get my head around this. The style of the music is very interesting and all little tweeks and miniture riffs get stuck in my head on each listen; always something new to find. She has a lovely voice and flows along beautifully with the slower synth lead sections and is really something very promising. So... Why does she have to scream? I can't understand it. Whenever something reminds me of a certain part of one of their tracks, "I Love Turbulence" especially, I can't listen to it. I can't bring my self to hear a woman ruining this music with her screaming. Clearly some people like it but I find it very hard to empathise. Certainly some of these tracks I would enter my common circulation of music but I just wince when the piercing shout of the lead singer cuts over the music. I don't know why you would prefere this type of vocals; and because of them I can't listen to them, which is a great shame... if you dissagree say this was unhelpful if you wish, I'm sure that it will show me the error of my ways or make you feel better. If you'd rather I'd love to hear a justification for their choice to do this.

AMAZING.

My new favourite band. Bloody fantastic.
