Hitting the spot

I saw Alan live in London performing songs from this album. He is a smashing performer and gave some really sweet and funny anecdotes. His heart and soul are in every number. I really loved the selection of songs, but ‘Next to Me’ really hit a chord; I can relate to this song. Thanks Alan.

He's Done It.

Alan Cumming is one of the most amazing performers in existence in the 21st century, and it is such a shame that not many people know him for who he is. Whether live, on camera, or on CD like this, he will never disappoint, and that is just so rare these days. While it's always nice to have a hard copy of a CD (especially this one, where Cumming writes the stories behind the songs), the mp3 copy from iTunes is essentially the same thing. On most albums, the listener will have three or four favourite songs, five that they rather enjoy listening to, and about six that they'll just skip through. There is not a single song on Cumming's I Bought A Blue Car Today that you will want to pass by. Covering classics like "That's Life", and "Shine", Alan Cumming does a wonderful job. In his traditional manner that we've all come to know and love, he covers a Cabaret song, but perhaps not the one you would expect. Not only is this album filled with wonderful songs from his one-man show, it also includes a song that Alan wrote for his partner, "Next To Me", a heart-filled ballad about the truths of relationships. Just wonderful; you'll love it.
