Daring and Provocative
I can save the word! It is a promise that Omori makes good on the first title whose guttering, guitar accords, scratch computer effects and unique percussion underscore the melancholic vocals of the artist. And after some tracks reminding Nick Cave's lyricism comes "Park Bench Philosopher"! In an amalgamation of Pink Martini and Piazzolla, Omori delivers a beautiful tango; light and refreshing. The wonderful "Climax" is probably the most melodic and "catchy" track of the album. "Accentuate the Positive" and "What Did you Do" demonstrate Dean's great poetic abilities, and prepare the listener for the deeply personal, emotional "I Smell Her On the Air".
Out of his comfort zone? Less criticism about the crisis of the planet and the suffering? More introverted? Exploring different composing directions? Probably maturer, more confident and comfortable in his skin this WWF award winning artist patiently waits for the world to listen to him. At a time when entertainment is cheap and easy to get hold of, invest in this album and dress your soul with this bespoke piece of art. Who knows? It may change your life and save your world.
