Incredible
There is little to say about this album other than it is a modern masterpiece. Wonderfully orchestrated and written. This album is a must. I dont need to write anyhting else, check it for yourself.
Pure genius
On the basis of this album (undeniably one of the greatest released this century so far), there is nothing that out friend Sufjan cannot turn his hand nor heart to. This is a true masterpiece, a CD I will surely be playing to my children and grand children in years to come. Stunning musical arrangements, painstaking perfectionism and, beneath it all, a real heart of gold. It is refeshing in the modern world to find a 'singer songwriter' who can write about more than just heartbreak and loss and whatnot (and yes I know that many singer songwriters who often breach these subjects are no less than fantastic themselves, but Sufjan has an EDGE). An album for all moods, any time of year whatever the weather. This is simply impossible to fault... buy it and see for yourself. Discover a whole new world of music.
Blissfull
Oh to discover Sufjan Stevens! I read a snippet in a newspaper gig review; it heaped so much adulalation upon him that i thought i'd take a punt on an album. Nothing prepares you for what you are about to emerse in. The first time i played Come on Illinoise! i was not sure what to make of it. (after 3 years this Slade reference still makes me laugh - and anyone else i bore with homage to the poetic/ musical genius he is....) Was this a classroom of small kids all playing random instruments. After the 3rd playing the penny drops and wonderment and then awe kick in as you realise he writes, arranges, sings and plays every instrument you hear..and there are over 15 i believe. There are few things so mesmeric, haunting and beautiful......i have noticed that a number of his songs are being used on TV programmes links in the UK .....and i hope this raises his profile so more people happen across him as did. I true masterpiece. My DJ/ dance loving girlfriend loves him so much now that she wants to walk down the isle to UFO.....but that's a different matter and who said it was with me anyway!
