tuck yourself in and enjoy

I absolutely loved the first album and wasn't too sure about this when I first got it but it has grown and grown and grown and easily gets my five stars. More adventurous than no.1 to the benefit of my ears. Its the kind of album you put on, read 10 pages of your book and tuck yourself in for the rest - next thing you know the alarm will go off!!! And I mean that in a good way.

Play, play and play again

It is hard to explain why this album is so good. I guess it is the interesting and varied compositions; the space and the way it draws you in rather than 'tells you how it has to be'; the lyrics and Markland's beautiful voice. But it is so good you'll play it over and over again. But, as with all great albums, you'll want to listen to certain tracks first, then others until you enjoy all the elements and then the album as a whole.
I saw Sleeping States in Bristol in early summer 2010 and have been playing this album, 'There The Open Spaces' and their EP 'Old vs New' constantly since.

Formed: England

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s

Releasing his first album as Sleeping States in 2004 (Distances Are Great), Starkie went on to release albums, EPs, and singles prolifically...
