When a girl haunts a film you always wonder how she'll sing. This outting of CG's is darker and more interesting than the previous with Jarvis Cocker and Air. Bringing Beck in to rough up the mixes and dirty the sound was a stroke of genius. When the strings kick in on 'le chat du café' it sends shivers through me. The strongest and most interesting pieces are percussive 'Master's Hands' and the blues / psyche out feel - 'Tricky Pony' and 'Dandelion'. Perhaps the single 'Heaven can Wait' is the weakest song on this. However she sings with more confidence and the lyrics have more to offer - check out the philosophy on 'La Collectioneuse'. Go to her web site www.charlottegainsbourg.fr for more. She's compelling to watch - her ethereal beauty is fragile and tender and you can feel her strength. Of course she'll be judged by her pedigree - but this stands alone (better than Serge in fact) as an indisposable statement to her 'now'.
Merveilleux!
Having never really listened to Charlotte Gainsbourg's music before, this was a total chance having seen a critic's write-up in 'Metro' and I loved it instantly. It's like nothing I have heard before & the songs are so atmospheric, moody and disturbing at times, that it's just in a class of its' own..

Brilliant album, every track is great. Stand out track for me is time of the assassins. This is totally different from her last album, Beck and Charlotte are a great combination, this is a superb collaboration.
