iTunes Review

Lily Allen may not be the most sophisticated (or timely) social commentator — "F**K You" is her dispatch on George W. Bush — but this 20-something British singer-songwriter often hits the heart of the matter with a pointed jab that can make a person blush. "Everyone's At It" begins with "So your daughter's depressed/Well, get her straight on the Prozac/But little do you know/She already takes crack". "Not Fair", with a near ska beat, offers a frank discussion of sexual inability, and "Him" ponders how many drugs God may have taken. Once the shock value wears off, Allen's second album still offers plenty of attractive, ambitious grooves that skewer from electro-pop to Eurodisco through ambient waves of static keyboard washes and funky mechanical basslines. Allen turns down the shockwaves for the more reflective tunes. "Who'd Have Known" and "Chinese" could be the centerpieces of a more conventional singer-songwriter's album. However, it's Allen's cheek that attracts the most attention and she obviously relishes knowing her little devil is in her details.

It's like Alright Still, but Better!

Wow, I get goosebumps when listening to Lily, she is awesome. Here is my review: Everyones at it: Powerful, great lyrics. No use to complain about rude lyrics. Catcchy chorus. 5 stars. The Fear: My second favourite track, I knew all the lyrics when I had listened to it only 3 times. So happy itunes gave away free video at christmas. 5 stars Not fair: Classic Lily, its a bit country at the chorus I thought, which is Good. Nice Lyrics. 5 stars 22: Amazing, my third favourite track. Catchy chorus and awesome to listen 2. 5 stars I could say: One of the only tracks on Lilys album that is sensitive and I take my hat off to her for putting the track on. Good Lyrics. 5 stars Back to the start: AWESOME! Quick, yet catchy, great nightclub music! 5 stars Never gonna happen: A bit panto, which is different, and good! Very catchy, like the rest. 5 stars F**k You: The best track on the entire album and of Lily's whole career. Very funny to listen too. If you like Alfie on the first album, this is very similar, sort of playground music! If you can only get 1 song, I reccomend this one! 5 stars- wish i could give it more! Who'd of known: Also good. My 4th favourite track, lovin it! 5 stars Chinese: Really cool song and lyrics are really wicked! Lily style! 5 stars Him: A song about God! She is wonderin about what he is doin. This I thought was Lily style, but somehow it felt like she had to get the album finished so she put it in, but still a good track! 4 stars. He Wasn't there: Quite similar to Never gonna happen, it is awesome! 5 stars This is how I would rate them all, from best to worse: 1. F**k You 2. The Fear 3. 22 4. Who'd have Known 5. Back to the Start 6. Everyone's at it 7. Not Fair 8. I could say 9. Chinese 10. Never Gonna Happen 11. He Wasn't There 12. Him

as good as Keith Allen

Words fail how dismal and depressed L.Allen and the cohorts of other non entities from exactly the same mould make me feel. L.Allen more so however simply because Guardian readers have taken a shine to this tooth-floss-debris and seem to think some Ruskin-soaked depth lies within. Check out the cover - yes this is a serious piece of work indeed.. This is the theme-tune to skipping through Heat or whatever magazines people who have trouble with long words read whilst waiting for the newest handbag.

Wow!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM! It’s an amazing comeback, and I’ve been waiting for it for ages. She sings more rather than speaking in this album, and some of the songs are slightly slower than in her last album. However, the honest lyrics haven’t changed a bit, and neither has the repetition. Everyone’s At It – One of the best on the album, it’s like it’s designed for shocking the listener. It fits perfectly with an electro sci-fi backing track, and Lily Allens’ high-pitched vocals. 10/10 The Fear – What a single! It sounds quite like Everyone’s At It, but with more flawlessness and accomplishment. It sounds so perfect. 10/10 Not Fair – This song has an amazing beat, it’s so bouncy and fresh, even managing to sound like it’s from another country. Not fair sounds like it could be used for line dancing. 10/10 22 – A polished song with elegant riffs, smooth vocals, with a classic edge. 9/10 I Could Say – Lovely piano to one of the slowest songs she has sung, it sounds melancholy, and really shows off her vocals. It is just a little too long. 8/10 Back To The Start – I love this song; it’s so fast and danceable, possible the best on the album. It’d be great if it turned into a single. 10/10 Never Gonna Happen – Love the accordion, and the riffs, Never Gonna Happen sounds like a sea chant, or a theme tune. Her vocals are really good too. 10/10 * You – This song is obviously swearing for the sake of swearing, but I still like the complete honesty, and bold vocals. 8/10 Who’d Have Known/Take That Shine! – A great mirror of Shine, really new and fresh. I love the idea. 8/10 Chinese – Quite slow, with a fast beat, and a sharp sound. 8/10 Him – This is HILARIOUS. Basically showing god from a new strange angle, wondering about God, saying crazy things like “I don’t imagine he’s ever been suicidal”! 10/10 He Wasn’t There - An old style tune, a bit too slow, and not much emotion. Good though 7/10 The Fear (Acoustic) – So much more emotion than the first one, lovely instruments, and stunning vocals. 10/10 He Wasn’t There (Acoustic) – Doesn’t really sound any different to the first one, which was one of my least favourites so I find it rather pointless. Still 7/10 15. The digital booklet is quite good, it has all the lyrics and 3 pictures including the cover art.

Biography

Born: 1985 in Hammersmith, London, England

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '00s, '10s

With her omnivorous musical tastes and cheeky attitude, London-based pop singer/songwriter Lily Allen made a name for herself almost as soon as she released her demos on the Internet. The daughter of comedian Keith Allen, Lily spent most of her childhood bouncing from one school to another — in fact, she attended 13 different schools between the ages of five and 15. This constant moving meant she didn't have much of a chance to make lasting friendships, so Allen entertained herself with books...
