Mixed Feelings

This is another desperate attempt from EMI to get people to buy the new Marillion material. The first seven tracks on this album are sung by Fish who many still believe to be the soul of Marillion. The rest, with the exception of the wonderful 'Freaks' are sung by Steve Hogarth, the rather american sounding relacement for Fish, who left the band in 1989 to pursue a successful solo career. Whilst the 'band' Marillion continue to produce 'Music' of a high quality, probably better musically than Fish's solo stuff, without the lyrics and the voice of Fish they are reduced to a nothing band. The new Marillion have a legion of loyal fans, but for this ex-Marillion fan they can never match the sublime genius of the first four Albums.

No fish please

Not a great collection, but ignore the reviews below, the really good stuff is the recent matrerial, especially Afraid of Sunlight and Cannibal Surf Babe. If you want a really good album, check out Marbles....it's the best album they've done, with or without Fish

H era Marillion

If you are unfamilair with Marillion then buy new release Somewhere Else and listen loud. This collection is another record company affair. A mixture of Fish era and H era Marillion. The first few songs are Fish era songs and sound dated and should stay in the 1980's. Then onto the the Steve Hogarth era and much improved Marillion come to light. His voice is so powerful and emotional. Put the Voice and Steve Rothery together and you get best era Marillion. Like I say, if you are new to Marillion ignore the ignorance and apathy and listen to new album Somewhere Else released April 2007. If you want greatest hits collections... go elsewhere too

Marillion emerged from the short-lived progressive rock revival of the early '80s to become one of the most enduring cult acts of the era. The group formed in Aylesbury, England, in 1979, and adopted its original name, Silmarillion, from the title of a J.R.R. Tolkien novel. Initially, Marillion were comprised of guitarist Steve Rothery, bassist Doug Irvine, keyboardist Brian Jelliman, and drummer Mick Pointer, but after recording "The Web," an instrumental demo, they recruited vocalist Fish (born...
