Brilliant

As usual arch enemy don't disappoint

Khaos!

Arch Enemy have produced a great album here. Their style is a kind of huge-sounding melodic death/thrash metal, and in that area they must be one of the top bands. The tracks on Khaos Legions fly at breakneck speeds with so much power and energy it is something to behold. Added to the metal fury are the classic and melodic guitar solos and harmonies that really give this band an edge. All band members are at the top of their game and have created an album that really stands out. If you like bands such as Dark Tranquillity and Amon Amarth then should try Arch Enemy.
Best tracks are: Bloodstained Cross and No Gods, No Master but the whole album is brilliant. No filler.
For me this album has given Amon Amarth's Surtur Rising some competition for Album of the Year (so far).

Mixed feelings.....

I've always loved Arch Enemy (i should clarify that and say 'with Angela on vocals') and viewed them as a band that would continue to grow and grow with each album. 'Khaos Legions', however, sort of feels like a step backwards. In terms of the production and sound, it sounds more like 'Doomsday Machine' than 'Rise of the Tyrant' and that's what lets it down.

Don't get me wrong, i LOVED 'Doomsday Machine', obviously i still do, but 'Rise of the Tyrant' had so much more of an epic feel to it in just about every regard, so when i heard Khaos Legions was coming, i expected a 'ROTT' style album.

If you'd heard DM, and then someone handed you ROTT and KL with no sleeve or anything, you had no prior knowledge of either album and listened to both, you'd think ROTT was the newer of the two.

Tracks 1-5, 7-8 and 10 are probably my favourites, and that's 2/3rds of the album, so there's no doubt that it's good, just not as good as ROTT in my humble opinion. Would definitely at least check it out though

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Formed by ex-Carnage, Carcass, and Candlemass guitarist Michael Amott (concurrently of Spiritual Beggars) with his brother Christopher (Armageddon), Arch Enemy took a straight-ahead approach to death metal reminiscent of Entombed or late-period Carcass, blending catchy, classic-style metal riffs with crushing grooves for an intense yet accessible sound. The group's charter lineup was rounded out by bassist/vocalist Johan Liiva (Carnage, Furbowl) and drummer Daniel Erlandsson (Eucharist, session work...
