Alice's "killer" album - and all is well, the Halo's back!!

iTunes in their infinite wisdom have restored this album's full glory, for without 'Halo Of Flies' it would have made far less sense. (And a note to Progg - if by 'jitters' you mean the wobbly guitar sound near the start of 'Halo' - that's how it should sound, that's the original recording!) The band may have gone on to greater commercial success with Schools Out and Billion Dollar Babies, but many of their fans would rate this as their greatest achievement. Produced when their "shock" live act was being perfected with guillotines and hangman's nooses, this album captures their black arts at their most polished and most deadly. (No other artist even then would have dared to create the 'Dead Babies" track - certainly not now in these more PC days - yet on closer inspection it's actually a cautionary tale and not one of sinister infanticide). Many of the other tracks - Killer, Halo Of Flies, Desperado - are indeed dark and gothic tales from rock's crypt. But it is not simply the shock value (death, blood and gore, violence, execution) that made this band such a rock powerhouse. No, there were two other factors : one, they could ROCK! Listen to even just 30 seconds of Under My Wheels for proof of that. Two - and perhaps surprisingly for a metallic rock band with such a dark script - the writers produced some of the most melodic rock music ever. Damn, they could come up with a tune !! This album - while so often praised - has never really made it into the canon of 'classic albums' so beloved of pretentious rock journalists. What do they know? Make up your own minds...

Great... But What Happened?

Superb Album. But What happened To Halo Of Flies?

Top 3 Alice Cooper Albums

I brought this album when it first came out, not one duff track, to me this album begins describing a type of person who due to nasty character gets his due penalty. Without Halo of flies it's missing a great extended song. This album's music increases with tension from begining to end.

Originally, there was a band called Alice Cooper led by a singer named Vincent Damon Furnier. Under his direction, Alice Cooper pioneered a grandly theatrical and violent brand of heavy metal that was designed to shock. Drawing equally from horror movies, vaudeville, heavy metal, and garage rock, the group created a stage show that featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood, and huge boa constrictors, all coordinated by the heavily made-up Furnier. By that time, Furnier had adopted the name...
