Very Good but not their best album.

I purchased this album because many Korn fans have said this is their favourite album. I would have to say that although it is very good, it is not as good as Issues or Untouchables. This is the sound of an emerging force that has not developed to its full potential. Also the production is not brilliant. On the later albums the guitars sound more powerful as do the drums. So here you got a very raw sounding Korn but I was kinda egging them on to sound heavier and for Jonathans vocals to open up and become more melodic. There are some great moments such as the classics Blind, Clown and Shoots and Ladders. Also the highly disturbing Daddy (not sure if I could handle a repeat listening due to its emotional intensity). In conclusion, it is the genesis of a truly special band.

Unmistakably Essential

Some debuts may seem dated, simple, and not as experimental as later albums, but not with Korn. Right from the start they take the rock scene by force with this merciless first album, that oozes with creativity and diversity. Every song is unmistakably essential to any hard rock (or Korn) fan. The band has not shied away from using different sounds, effects and song structures to convey their evident passion for a unique sound and deep, explicit lyrics. Korn is - and should always be thought of - as a landmark in the rock/grunge music scene!
