Album Of The Year 2008

My favorite album of last year was Roisin Murphy's Overpowered, so it's a pity that my favorite album of this year is yet another stupendously overlooked and underrated but highly talented female artist...what is wrong with the world? This album should be MASSIVE! But everyone is still buying Coldplay??? Get over it!!! Try something new - seriously this album is awesome. Buy it.

Outstanding!!

For a debut album, this really is an exceptional effort. It's like an '80s throwback, with a present day twist, that kind of lulls you into a false sense of nostalgia. As you listen to each track, it seems instantly recognisable, even if you've never heard it before; this, I think, adds to the appeal of the whole album. And further still, unlike many albums I've purchased before, there are very few (i.e. zero) tracks that I find myself skipping through. However, on the downside, at times the lyrics can be very repetitive. This is something that can be easily overlooked, though, when you take into account the general quality of the album, the production, and Ladyhawke's refreshing vocals. Stand out tracks, for me: Magic, Another Runaway and My Delirium. Especially Magic, and the live version's a real treat!
