Back in the mid-'00s, Lupe Fiasco struck a nerve with his fashion-forward style, matched with cheeky verses and ear-tickling, loop-driven productions, which endeared him to fans and critics alike. Lasers (an acronym for Love Always Shines Everytime Remember 2 Smile) marks his 2011 return. Straight off the bat, it's clear that Lupe has no intentions keeping his original, underground-centric fan base, as he employs a lot more singing, radio-ready choruses, and a heavy, electro-pop influence on his tracks. The best joints here are the string-laced, Afro-centric anthem "All Black Everything", ridiculously catchy "Coming Up" featuring MDMA, and "Words I Never Said" with Skylar Grey. Other guests include John Legend, Trey Songz, and Matt Mahaffey.

Poor Chart Fodder

Don't be fooled by the praising reviews on here from casual music fans. If you're a real fan of Lupe Fiasco, this will be a HUGE dissapointment. Whilst Lupe's lyrics are still top quality, the music, production and style has moved from sheer hip hop brilliance and originality to samey poppy chart fodder. You could easily mistake this for a B.O.B album. It's not Lupe's fault, Atlantic forced these poppy hooks and productions on Lupe, this is not his own work. Check out the interview the guardian does with Lupe to confirm this. Such a dissapointment. Let's get Lupe off of Atlantic onto a new album where his creative genius is not stifled but allowed to flourish!

Lasers....

Let me precede by saying that I love Lupe and pretty much everything he does. This is a good album by regular standards, by Lupe standards it's slightly below par. Don't expect anything like the soulful Food and Liquor, expect catchy hooks. However, it must be said, lyrically, Lupe is in a league of his own, there is some genuine profound poetry on the album.My favourites include The Show Goes On, Shining Down and Words I Never Said.

Not his best, but certainly worth owning!

Just copped this as soon as it turned midnight. Lasers has been delayed for so long, but I'm on track 3 and it's safe to say it was well worth the wait! Lupe is one of the most underrated rappers out there...buy this!
