iTunes Review

A collection of Bob Marley’s most commercially successful and at times most moving work, Legend is an album whose towering cultural status nearly overshadows the legacy of the artist that it seeks to commemorate. Still, no amount of overplaying can lessen the impact of effortlessly perfect songs like “Three Little Birds”, “Buffalo Soldiers”, and “No Woman No Cry”. All of the songs here reflect Marley’s years of songwriting experience, and it’s a wonder that a song as spare as “Redemption Song” can engage so many divergent strains of musical history — Doo-Wop, Rocksteady, Gospel and more — with such masterful simplicity. Most of the material here is drawn from Marley’s years with Chris Blackwell’s Island records, and as such lacks the visceral punch of much of his earlier material. But Marley’s songwriting only improved as his career progressed, and what these cuts lack in rugged atmosphere they make up for in sheer brilliance. Simply put, Legend is one of the most rewarding and influential compilations of reggae music ever released.

Real music for warming the soul. Feel your troubles lift away as you listen. Truely a legendary album from the most legendary reggae artist. Possibly the best collection of Bob Marley's songs ever. (The live version of No Woman, No Cry is particularly good - one of the clearest live tracks I have heard)

This is what Jamaica gave the world

Not meaning to cast dispersion about Robbie Earle's France '98 heroics; but Bob Marley simply is Jamaica! With the influx of reggae/hip hop to hit Britain since Mr Marley thanks to Sean Paul and Shaggy it is hard to appreciate the effect Bob Marley and The Wailers (lest we forget their important input) had on British music and Britain as a whole. This affect of course is not isolated to the UK, the American's were spellbound too and he stopped a likely civil war in his homeland. Musically, the shear number of artists who attributed their beginning to Marley is huge. He effected everyone, Wycleaf Jean to Madness. This is album basically encapsulates a genesis moment in music. The album is great start to hopefully an obsession with Bob; you even get a taster of what he was like live. THIS IS A MUST HAVE ALBUM.
