What a birthday present!
Mr. Hunter's follow up to the 2002 hit, EXODUS, is a fantastic progression in his work. The title reference of LIFE, is exactly what this offering is full of. From beginning to end, this EP promotes good vibes and inspiration. Looking forward to the next outing, but in the meantime, if you haven't already got this EP, then get it. Your LIFE may depend on it!
Not quite sure about this...
The first few tracks on this EP are in many ways a development of what was good about the Exodus album with more guitars and some electro flourishes - excellent trance production, fine programming sustaing interest and so on. The problem for me though is the same one that has dogged Andy Hunter's releases since the Hydro days. When he opens the throttle all is rosy in the garden is rosy. However, on trying to do a more acceptable worship sound (usually bringing in the female vocals), perhaps for commercial marketing reasons or perhaps he honestly wants to do it this way, the problems start coming into view. On combining two genres (trance and worship) that both try to use straight-forward, profound lyrics but nearly always come out as simplisic, trite and shallow, the momentum built up earlier in the record is lost. This is unfortunate, as when AH puts his mind to it, he really can move back the envelope in both genres - Strange Days on Exodus is a prime example of this. So, check the samples and see how much of this EP you go for.
even more interesting
Only 6 songs, which is lame, but what songs! The weakest link is 'wonderful', but is STILL great. Alive and lifelight are nice, open my eyes sounds like Wondrs of you, Come on is amazing, really fast paced and fun to listen to, wheras to ife to love is a very peaceful but effectiv song
