Album Review
To dance fans of the '90s, the sight of a pair of twin flashlights, bobbing in time to the most sublime techno ever heard, could mean only one thing: Orbital were on-stage. The brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll earned a fearsome live reputation wherever they played early on, and did more to further the cause of British techno in a live setting than anyone else. Live at Glastonbury is a two-CD/one-DVD audio-visual document of the duo's magic. The set is mixed to sound like one career-spanning set (although it was recorded between 1994 and 2004), and it includes nearly every one of Orbital's career milestones: "Impact (The Earth Is Burning)," "Are We Here?," "Attached," "The Girl with the Sun in Her Head," and "Walk Now." The recording quality is good, and the set comes with only one caveat: while it does translate the fevered energy (and rave whistles) of an Orbital performance, the drums thud too much for comfort.

For those who couldn't be there and even those that were!
For my first 'Orbital live' experience I had the great fortune of seeing the brothers Hartnoll 'in the round' in Coventry in the early 90's with no more than a few hundred people attending on their travels to support the release of Snivilisation. Subsequently I saw them at Glastonbury and other 'large venues' amongst an audience of many hundreds/thousands. EVERY time they were simply brilliant and this captures that beautifully.
Whether playing to an audience of a few or many, Orbital were always simply top class and tracks that are outstanding on the studio albums become 'monstrous' live..... a must have album whether you had the good fortune to see them in action or not.
Track in the background of Halcyon
I was at Glastonbury in 1999 and I remember, during their set, a large float coming through the crowd with banging techno playing that drowned out the sound of Orbital. You can hear it in the excerpt of Halcyon. Good festival that year, three days of hot sunshine....Never went back and I am pleased I didn't!
