Living is so easy

A surprising direction for British Sea Power after 4 brilliant albums, but to me it's a triumph, which also breaks some new ground for the band. On first hearing it reminded me of that Lightning Seeds hit, but it's much darker than that. Maybe it's a tad reminiscent of Elvis Costello - Oliver's Army for example - for the way the catchy pop sound carries a bleak sentiment. Bears repeated listens, and a teasing taster for the Valhalla Dancehall album due out in January. PS the version on the bsp web site is in mono, and edited.

A quartet from Brighton, England, British Sea Power are a rather conceptual indie band — compared more than once to Joy Division — featuring members named Hamilton, Noble, Yan, and Wood. The group was formed in the late 2000, and its live shows began to receive notice early on, thanks in no small part to the large stuffed birds that perched on-stage and the militaristic uniforms worn by the bandmembers.
