Amazing mix of styles

Lost Horizons marks Abney Parks first release under the steampunk genre. Don't know what steampunk is? Don't worry. This album is hugely approachable and uses so many styles that there's something everyone will like. "Airship Pirate" for example, is a modern take on a sea shanty, "I am Stretched on Your Grave" is a celtic folk song, and "Herr Drosselmyers Doll" is a vienese waltz. Abney Park's skill though, is using their music to tell stories, such as "virus". The more I listen to this album, the more I love it.

Steampunk!

Abney Park make a great change from the mainstream stuff you normally hear, though they're not to everyone's taste. For me, 'Airship Pirate' is by far the best track on the album and of the people I played it to, half loved it and the other half hated it. There's dispute as to whether the album can really be called 'Steampunk' (that's the genre of Abney's music, according to many), which is usually a literary genre; but whatever you want to call them, I think they're well worth a listen - and with the beautifully decorative instruments they play and costumes they wear, well worth a look, too.

With the latter of the two experiencing a slight lineup change, Abney Park resulted in...
