iTunes Review
While soon to be involved in the new supergroup Super Heavy, featuring Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart and Damien Marley, Stone teams up with Stewart for a look at the real Stone at last. Stone is an intense British soul singer who has flirted with modern R&B. However, she is at heart a classicist and with Stewart carefully guarding the arrangements, LP1 is a beautiful capturing of Stone’s raw vocal talents. “Karma”, with a juicy tight funk, pumps like it’s 1973, electric keyboards adding just the right amount of nightclub sleaze. “Newborn” delivers its message starting with acoustic guitar and building to a full-band blowout. Stone sings shimmering ringlets of notes that flurry past with great heart and depth. “Don’t Start Lying to Me Now” keeps up a junkyard funk, but “Last One to Know” pulls out all the stops. Keyboard-based tunes like “Drive All Night” and “Cry Myself to Sleep” bring with them an emotional intimacy. Stone’s dramatic range and her insistence on keeping things old-school here make her that rare find. Listen to the bluesy wail of “Take Good Care” to be convinced.

A different Joss Stone
I've been a joss stone fan since I was 7 or 8. Joss's voice progresses so much after every album and you can definitely see a change on this album. This album seems very raw which is what I love about it. This album is much more edgier compared to colour me free and has a rock element to it. This album does not disappoint me at all. My favourite songs are last one to know, somehow and landlord. I adore this album but mind, body and soul will always be my favourite.
Stunning.
Simply stunning. The quality of the song writing shines through on this album, and Joss turns up the Janis Joplin style power vocals, which is a great thing. This is definitely Joss Stone's best album (to date) and I hope to hear more like this from her in future. Highly recommended.
