Quit moaning....its progress!

Ace tune. Forget all the rubbish about it "not sounding like Bloc Party", thats the entire point: Bloc Party could write a million albums full of tracks like the tunes found on Silent Alarm and stick with a winning formula, but great bands change, develop, try new things. Kele sounds great, the music sounds fresh and exciting, and if you dont want to shake your behind to a beat and B line like this, you clearly have issues. More please.

What Happened boys??!

Bloc Party used to be unique with there outstanding debut 'Silent Alarm' but now they have followed suit with all the new rave, techno, Indie electronic bands currently drowning the market. This new song is so far away from the sound we all fell in love with on there debut album and I personally cant stand it. I just hope the boys pull themselves together for the next album as I certainly wont be buying this one if the tracks are anything like this.

Blinding

Flux was a disappointment to me. I saw bloc party going down a bland electronic route of repetition and cliche. mercury gave me the opposite impression. Here we clearly see bloc party citing warp record influences; acts such as aphex twin, autechre, battles and squarepusher. They have chosen to do something radically different and experimental at a time when sticking to the musical status quo is bringing in shed loads of cash. The pounding drums (especially that droning bass drum) and the stuttering vocal loop really hold the track together. Also the strange use of horns is highly inventive and original. Its a brave step forward into the relatively unexplored waters of IDM-rock Hopefully it will be rewarded.

Okereke and Lissack met each other through mutual friends at the Reading Festival, and discovered that they had musical tastes as well as friends...
