Collaboration made in heaven...

...for me anyway!

Typical Orb transient beats and strange samples of the environment married with the greatest living guitarists searing fret work. Not Gilmour's most technical work, in fact it's quite lazy noodling but this actually blends very well with the albums chilled tempo. Occasional hints of DG getting full on and unleashing but not quite. Very enjoyable all the same...

A must listen for any Orb, Floyd or DG fan, well that's 3 boxes ticked & a resounding 5* from me then...

Love Both Artists, But....

This album is a shining example of why it is often wise to download elsewhere prior to purchase. I've listened to David Gilmour since I was a child. I've played the guitar for thirty years - he was the reason I picked one up and then became a guitar teacher. The Orb have been on my playlist since getting a demo of UFOrb. I adore both but this album is a dreadful dissapointment in almost every respect. Had I heard it previously there is no way I would have bought it.

It isn't even saved by the production which is at best weak. The guitars are saturated in inappropriate effects and the frequencies seem woefully mismatched across the board. The dynamics are mediocre and the whole thing lacks any vibrance, life or imagination. I've worked in studios for many years and have a dreadful suspicion that the work was farmed out to some underling who really wasn't that interested. The more I think about this, the more bitterly dissapointed I become; it's not the money - Mr. Gilmour and Mr. Paterson will always be welcome to a few quid off me, but I've waited a long time for this and it wasn't worth the wait. It's certainly not worth £7.99.

disappointed

Anyone that ever felt the spine tingling brilliance of Pink Floyd, or the spangled wonder of The Orb's Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld would be justified in sharing my sense of excitement over the past few months, in anticipation of what should have been a stunning collaboration.

As it is, I'm afraid this is one Pink Floyd / Orb fan who has been sadly disappointed. A combination of pointless noodling and old tired guitar licks has left me wishing that the delete button on my iTunes was directly linked to a refund on my plastic.

I was prepared to love it, I wanted to revel in it's gorgeousness, but found myself searching for moments of wonderment that just never arrived... a load of old noodles. Wish I could get my money back.

Biography

Formed: 1989 in London, England

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

The Orb virtually invented the electronic genre known as ambient house, resurrecting slower, more soulful rhythms and providing a soundtrack for early-morning ravers once the clubs closed their doors. The group popularized the genre as well, by appearing on the British chart show Top of the Pops and hitting number one in the U.K. with the 1992 album U.F.Orb. Frontman Dr. Alex Paterson's formula was quite simple: he slowed down the rhythms of classic Chicago house and added synth work and effects...
