iTunes Review

The surprise buzz band out of L.A. in 2004, Rilo Kiley skirt many styles as singer Jenny Lewis does her Petula "Downtown" Clark best to sound as if she's the coolest chick in the room. Releases on credible indie labels (Barsuk, Saddle Creek) grew the band's reputation. However, with major label distribution and their music's sheer will, they're poised for a major breakthrough. "It's a Hit" features a seven-letter expletive guaranteed to keep it off radio, but the rest of the album's hooks are never so defiant. Blake Sennett's guitar chugs behind, as Lewis sets up center stage with convincing pop ("Accidental Death"), unflinching looks at reality ("Absence of God," "Love and War (11/11/46)") and even a soul number ("I Never"). This isn't a band looking to find one spot on the musical map and settle. With strings and synths augmenting the quartet, this is a group in search of possibilities.

Excellent Third Album from Rilo Kiley

Rilo Kiley just keep getting better. The guitar work and rythms keep the feet tapping, the lyrics are meaningful and light, and the vocal talent of Jenny . I would unhesitatingly recommend to anyone whose favorite music channel is not Scuzz or Kerrang. Fave Song - Portions for Foxes. Listen and enjoy!

The Best of the lot

This is by far (in my humble opinion!) the best album from Rilo Kiley. Jenny Lewis has a fantastic voice, there being only one track I tend to skip (Ripchord), "The Abscence of God" is possibly one of the best songs I have ever heard and it makes my skin tingle every time I hear it! - would recommend this album

Its like Aimee Mann but better!!

I think this is great! There are no fillers at all, but 'Ripchord' and 'Does He Love You?' are stunning hits! Rilo Kiley has a similar voice to Aimee Mann, but her songwriting and style is far superior. This really is a stunning album and a must buy for any music lover!

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Like their West Coast contemporaries in Death Cab for Cutie, Rilo Kiley steadily gained traction in indie pop circles throughout the late '90s and early 2000s before the record industry (and public at large) officially took note. Led by former child actors Jenny Lewis (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Blake Sennett (guitar, vocals), the L.A.-based quartet held its first practice in 1998. Bassist Pierre de Reeder and drummer Dave Brock (later replaced by ex-Foundation Lassie member Jason Boesel) completed...
