What Does It All Add Up To?

Certainly 5 stars - and more if they were available. Ex lead frontman from Love and Money, singer songwriter James Grant came of age to produce this sublime collection of songs, this being his second solo album. Buy it, if for 'nothing' more than the third track which is worthy of being categorised a classic, timeless song. It's certainly not 'upbeat' music to dance to - James left all that behind with his old group - so you should expect something much more thought provoking with music that that can truly lift the soul. Though James carries the album with his exquisite voice - compared often to Scott Walker - and brilliant guitar playing, musical maestro Donald Shaw assists with keyboards and production and his influence undoubtedly adds some weight to the whole feel of the album - which is one that reveals something different to me with each listen. I have over 800 CDs in my collection - and this has consistently been in my top 10 since the year 2000. I expect it to be there for years to come.

My THrwan Glory

A complete package of superb song-writing, excellent vocals & soaring melody. A treasure!

the title says it all

I think the first 4 songs on this are as good a beginning to an album as any album I own. There are no bad songs on this I just think sequentially it is out of whack (my opinion obviously)-after song 4 jacqueline shoes slows the tempo down where if it had been lodestar it may have continued the magic. The title track is too good to have been stuck away at no 11 -maradona as an outside left stuck on the touchline!! buy it, turn it to play & switch the lights off this is as good as any scottish artist has ever been.

As a member of Friends Again and Love and Money, James Grant (vocals, guitar, bass) helped to establish Glasgow, Scotland, as a wellspring for brainy, soulful pop in the '80s. In 1982, Grant joined Friends Again, a punchy new wave outfit who crossed Aztec Camera's jangly riffs with David Bowie's stabs at funk. Friends Again released one LP, Trapped and Unwrapped, in 1984 before Grant left the group to exhibit his own talent for songwriting. In 1985, Grant formed Love and Money, a band who initially...
