New Blood is the final piece of a conceptual trilogy that started with 2010’s Scratch My Back. On that orchestral project, Gabriel interpreted other songwriters’ works, implementing a “no drumkits, no guitars” aesthetic. Six artists he covered returned the favor; in a series of singles, each recorded a song from the Gabriel songbook. For 2011’s New Blood, Gabriel revisited his own history with the Scratch My Back approach. Stretching back to 1977 (“Solsbury Hill”) up through 2002 (“Darkness”), this album let Gabriel address his career through an early sixtysomething’s perspective and voice (singing and artistic). Subtle brass, woodwinds, strings, and a choir replace the pounding drums and tense guitars of “Intruder”. The piano at the heart of “Intruder” remains, but it’s set to a lush sea of strings instead of synthesizers, bass guitar, and tom-toms. Two Gabriel hits receive very different treatment, with “In Your Eyes” reimagined as a powerful overture and “Don't Give Up” (with Norwegian vocalist Ane Brun in the Kate Bush role) reborn as a chamber-pop triumph.

Very Good (Indeed)...but

To nail my colours firmly to the mast; I am a huge fan of the man and his music and this orchestral reworking of some of PG's most significant songs is never less than arresting and occasionally very good indeed. However, am I alone in thirsting for something new AND original? The most recent album of covers, 'Scratch My Back', was once again, a great listen. In terms of both the choice of song and, inevitably, arrangement and delivery it was a cut above your normal 'musical legend does quirky covers' outing but give us something from the exercise books of material that must be piled up somewhere at home. I can honestly say that I'd take anything from Peter Gabriel's reject tapes (sorry, hard drives?) in preference to most of the lifeless, tuneless, passionless fare we are routinely served up with these days- Good grief...I've turned into my dad!

Big G always amazing

A million stars!!!! This is perhaps what Gabriel fans have been waiting for , for a very long time. We know that he has had the stroke of genius for a long time . That old wiley fox on the rock has done it again. The past becomes reala gain and memories re-flood back in listening to San Jacinto tinkle past your ears. I shuddered again to the Intruder and fell in love again to Dont Give Up.
It is just amazing .You absolutely have to experience this beautiful collection of music and songs. Whether you are a Gabriel fan or not we all have to hear this . Give yourself the best downlod that sits on the internet. Thank you for bringing this to us all .

Pure Gabriel Genius

I was disappointed with the first orchestral outing from PG, it just didn't hang together well. This is totally different. A really good combination of his own songs that are glued together with the orchestral treatment. In fact, there isn't a bad track on this album, and I am sure all Gabriel fans will just love it!
"In your Eyes" stands out as the best track, but to be honest all tracks are brilliant.
It's the first time in years that i have just sat down and listened to any of Peter's albums with awe of the pure genius that is behind such great songwriting and vocal talent. In a time of a vacuum in songwriting and singing talent this album just stands out alone, and is a giant that needs no shoulders to stand on.
The first orchestral outing was a die hard fan buy only, this is just sublime and is a must buy.
