iTunes Review
While you could say Courtney Love is Hole, since she is the “group”’s one constant, it is inaccurate since the sound is highly dependent on her songs’ co-writers. This doesn’t mean that the final product isn’t as fascinating as Love’s own tabloid life; it just means that there is an obvious musical variety that comes from other sources. And it’s still Love’s tortured grunge croak snarling over the tunes. Only she could chill your heart with the nasty sweep of the title track, the intense drive of the garage-to arena rock of “Skinny Little Bitch,” and the rough and raw demo, intensity turned full-on, hard-rock attack of the Love-Billy Corgan-Linda Perry co-write “How Dirty Girls Get Clean”. “Honey”, “Pacific Coast Highway” and the raw bonus track “Never Go Hungry” aim towards mid-tempo. “Someone Else’s Bed”, “For Once In Your Life” and “Letter to God” add up to be retrospective compositions where Love sounds more like a singer-songwriter trying to find her way home. She’s been a tortured, confused soul for years and this album shows those scars brilliantly.
Customer Reviews
love it.
The album is amazing, so worth the money.
I prefer the demos to be honest though but the lyrics remain equally as deep and meaningful.
Best songs of the album include: Samantha, someone elses bed, letter to god, how dirty girls get clean and nobody's daughter.
Really worth the 5 stars
When I found that Hole were doing a 4th studio album, I couldnt wait. Almost two years later, Its finally here and it really is worth the time and effort that Courtney Love and company has put into this.
After hearing some of the demos my hopes were high. The tracks that were on the demo album have been filled out and modified with great success (except Never Go Hungry Again, which works well as an acoustic song), and the new ones are brilliantly written and stand out.
Well worth the money. Thank you Courtney for sticking it out. You are a star amongst all the criticism you get, you still shine brightly.
Nobody
Wow, five years in the making, friends made, friends lost (Mr. Corgan) and Courtney has finally released Nobody's Daughter. This is an epic album, not simply do to its release history but due to its content. This album showcases Loves raw and brilliant talent. Stand out track have to be Samantha, Someone Elses Bed, PCH, Nobody's Daughter... the list continues, this is an amazing development from Americas Sweetheart, even on her solo debut effort we saw glimmers of brilliance but Loves personal demons stopped that record from being epic... but here she succeeds in every possible way. This is an intelligent, loud, thought-provoking, and Im going to say it again... brilliant return to the music scene, and my god wasn't it needed?
Well done Courtney, you should be proud of this record, BUY IT!
p.s Billy Corgan why don't you stop your bitching and hating on Courtney Love, your debut solo effort was shambolic, and your return to your band Smashing Pumpkins was below average... you sound bitter dude, get over it, you know as well as the rest of us how good this record is... kind of hurts right? Get over it and start writing good material.
